Arts Destination South Molton

arts@our heart: sharing art and culture with our local community

Welcome to Arts Destination South Molton, a small charity engaging with a wide audience through The Arts. We work with local, national and international artists, makers, performers, musicians, writers and poets, and organise events, exhibitions, workshops, performances and projects.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, June 2022

We are delighted to announce our art workshops, projects and events for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, have been awarded Arts Council England and Devon Community Foundation funding – out of ninety-two Devon applications only sixteen were successful, so we are feeling rather proud of ourselves!

Winning this award enables us to:

  • Commission four North Devon artists
  • Hold free community workshops for all age groups and abilities
  • Create a large art installation to be displayed in The Pannier Market
  • Develop and perform a fun, community dance in honour of the Queen’s Green Canopy and the South Molton, Lime Tree plantings by Lady Arran
  • Write and perform (with input from schoolchildren and the local community), a South Molton Royal Charters Song, based on the two ancient town Charters granted by Elizabeth I and Charles II.

A Heritage Crafts Day is being held in the historic Pannier Market on Friday 3rd June, where there will be displays and demonstrations of traditional skills by artists, makers and artisans, including; Calligraphy, Printmaking, Weaving and Spinning, Basket-making, Skep-making, Pottery, Cabinet making Carving and Woodturning. This event gives a rare opportunity to chat with the makers and try some of the skills for yourself throughout the day.

Rob Darch - Photographer

We are also commissioning a photographer, Rob Darch, to record the events and the community, with a later exhibition of the photographs, which will be archived with Beaford Arts as a lasting record of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in South Molton.

People from our community, of all age ranges and abilities, are most welcome to join in with our workshops and events – we want everyone to feel they can play a part (however great or small) in this wonderful ‘once in a lifetime’ magical experience, which will be remembered for years to come!
